Training
IP Attorney Training
Targeted training in IP strategy and patent prosecution to elevate attorney skill and impact. For over 20 years, as senior partner of the Silicon Valley IP group at Morgan Lewis, I trained our junior attorneys and patent agents, which contributed to the team’s reputation as having unusually high competence.
Capabilities
US and International Prosecution Training Presentations
I have numerous presentations to help your patent prosecution associates and patent agents gain awareness of the issues they are likely to face during US and international patent prosecution and learn how to address those issues. I train your team on how to address patent prosecution issues, both in their applications and in their office action responses. Presentations include topics concerning the prosecution of applications in the US, the PCT, and multiple foreign jurisdictions (e.g., EP, AU, BR, CN, IN, JP, KR, TW, etc.)
One-on-one Training
I recommend one-on-one or small team training on live projects, including both traditional prosecution training and training using AI tools. An abstract understanding of the law, the rules and the available computer software tools is not a sufficient basis for becoming an effective patent prosecutor. While receiving feedback in form of edits, or a revised draft that can be compared with the associate’s draft, can be helpful, live collaborative writing and editing (i.e., during one-on-one training) are much more effective at teaching associates how to apply the law and rules while preparing patent applications and office action responses, and accelerate the associate’s development of professional judgment skills.
Team Focus
Having your patent prosecution associates and patent agents trained by the same senior attorney gives your team a shared, solid foundation, helping to form a more harmonious and productive patent prosecution team.
